Surrender Your Pet
We understand that surrendering your companion can be difficult for you and your family. If you can no longer care for your pet, it is important that you research and understand what options you have available. If you are considering surrendering your pet, please do not hesitate to call the shelter to discuss your situation with our staff or talk about ways you might be able to keep your pet.
Lost a Pet
We know that sinking feeling that comes with discovering your furry best friend is missing. The sooner you begin your search, the better your chances of being reunited with your lost pet. Click below for some steps you can take inside and outside your neighborhood to help improve your chances of finding them or to see if your pet is already at the shelter.
Reclaim a Pet
1) Call or email CASA about your pet. The shelter can assist in pet reclaim services seven days a week.
2) Prepare proof of ownership. Proof includes an ID matching the current microchip registration, veterinary records, recent date-stamped photos, or an Island County dog license.
3) Arrive at the shelter prepared with photo ID and Cash or Card payment for Reclaim/Impound fees. No checks.
Found a Pet
1) Contact CASA to see if a pet has been reported as lost.
2) Bring the pet to a veterinarian or CASA to see if it is microchipped. We ask that you do not bring the animal into the building.
3) If the pet was found on Camano, you can bring the animal to CASA to be admitted as a stray.
4) If the pet was not found on Camano, you can file a Found Animal Report, but the dog/cat must be taken to the shelter covering the area where the pet was found. For example, animals found in Stanwood should be taken to the Everett Animal Shelter.

Other Services
Dog Licenses
Island County requires all dogs to be licensed per pet code 6.08.020. CASA sells annual dog licenses on behalf of Island County. Licenses must be renewed annually. 2024 licenses expire in December 2024 regardless of the month of purchase. Bring proof of current rabies vaccination. To receive the discounted rate for altered (spayed/neutered) dogs proof of spay/neuter from your veterinarian is also required. If you do not have proof of spay/neuter you will be required to pay the intact dog rate. Licenses are also sold at the Camano Annex. Island County does not have a licensing requirement for cats. Fees: Altered Dog License $10 Intact/Unaltered Dog License $33 Lost Tag Replacement $1
Low-Cost Microchips
CASA offers low-cost microchip implantation to the public for dogs and cats, by appointment, for only $15. Free microchip clinics for both cats and dogs are held annually. Please check our calendar for planned clinics. All cats and dogs adopted from CASA are microchipped. Microchip scanning is always available.
Live Traps
CASA offers local residents humane live trap rentals. Trap rentals can be done in person at the shelter. Fees: $25 flat rate. Trap must be returned within 30 days.
Feral/Barn Cats
We maintain a list of people interested in providing homes for “barn cats” or “mousers”. If you are interested in providing food, water and appropriate shelter for a homeless cat like this, contact the shelter to be added to our list. If you have a barn cat who needs a new home, contact the shelter and ask if there is anyone looking for a cat like yours. We will contact them for you. All “barn cats” or “mousers” are required to be spayed or neutered. Feral Cats CASA can assist with feral or semi-feral cats on a case-by-case basis. We are not set up to handle a large population of feral cats. Contact the shelter to see if we may be able to help. We recommend individuals needing help with feral cats, reach out to one of the many feral cat groups in our area before contacting CASA.
